Preschool Program

The Grinnell Newburg School District, in partnership with the Grinnell Community Early Learning Center and UCC Preschool, provide our communities littlest learners in our Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program.   Although the three centers are on different campuses in our community, we work together through Professional Development, collaboration with lessons and resources, and assessment to ensure our preschool students are given the best program in our community.

You can view our Preschool Handbook for the three programs at the link below.
STATEWIDE VOLUNTARY PRESCHOOL PROGRAM HANDBOOK

Students that attend one of these three programs are a part of the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program, meaning they meet the requirements set forth by the state.

Creative Curriculum for preschool guides program planning and instruction.  There is a balance of student selected and teacher directed learning activities that supports development in the areas of social-emotional, physical, language, cognitive, math, social studies, science, and the arts.

We assess our students using the GOLD online assessment system through Creative Curriculum.  This allows us to assess students through observations at school and home.  We also use the statewide assessment tool called IGDI’s that assess literacy skills of students.

Families have a home visit at the beginning of the year to connect with our preschool staff as well as the staff to get to know your child and gain insights from families on how to best make our environment successful for their child.  We provide conferences throughout the year as well.

Our program includes music, large motor, and library skills as part of the scheduled curriculum.  Students are able to check out books from the school library as well as meet weekly for music education.
