Superintendent's Update: May 10, 2024

Weekly What’s Going Well: 

Happy Friday Grinnell-Newburg Families!  As a reminder, the last day of school is Friday May 31st with the addition of two snow make up days for students.  Take a listen to this week’s video featuring PE Teacher Chuck Lyon sharing about the upcoming 8th grade Campout!  Keep reading to learn more about all the great things happening across the district this week! 

Teacher Appreciation Day
We love all of our Teachers here at Grinnell-Newburg!  We were able to show a little appreciation this week! No matter how the cookie crumbles, we have the best teachers around! 

 

    

 

 

School Nurse Appreciation Day
Our school nurses are an integral part of the organization and we were able to show them some appreciation this week as well!  Thank you Kim Weber and Katelin Ferguson for all you do to keep us feeling our best! 

 

 

4th Graders Enjoy Y Camp
Our 4th graders enjoyed Wednesday to Friday in Boone attending Y Camp.  They stayed in cabins with their classmates and enjoyed family style meals as well as learning about pond ecology, archery, horseback riding, bird watching, and so much more!  Thanks to all who worked hard to plan and finance this amazing experience that caps off the elementary school experience!  Thank you also to our chaperones that joined the fun!

Boys Golf
Boys golfers competed in the WaMaC Super Conference Meet this week.  Tiger boys finished 7th with a score of 321. Junior Brandon Thompson earned 1st Team All-Conference honors placing 8th overall with a 76. Freshman, Levi Jack finished 19th overall with an 80, which earned him 2nd Team All-Conference honors. Boys golf got 2nd at Sectionals. Brandon Thompson was 1st place medalist. They compete Monday in Districts at Stone Creek Golf Course in Williamsburg

Girls Golf
Competes at Regionals Wednesday, May 15 at Saddleback Ridge Golf Course in Solon

Girls Tennis
Girls' doubles team of Kennedy Harms and Mary Jacobson qualified for the state meet after getting 2nd place at Regionals. Team is competing today, May 10th, here in Grinnell. 

Boys Tennis
Boys' team competed Wednesday in District Singles & Doubles. Had some very good matches but unfortunately nobody qualified. Team Substate is Saturday, May 11 at Grinnell.

Soccer Team
Hosts Substate versus Ballard Monday, May 13 7pm at T.T. Cranny

Baseball
Baseball season begins Monday, May 13 as they travel to Fairfield

Softball
Girls softball season will start Monday May 20th.  

 

Spring Choir Concert Tonight!
Come out and enjoy the 2024 Spring Choir Concert that occurs at 7:30 pm tonight in the auditorium! The GHS Bass Clef Choir, Treble Clef Choir, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Tiger Choir, and GHS Choir Seniors will be performing a wonderful program full of uplifting and positive music that will put a smile on your face! The concert has a free will donation and is open to the public. Please consider supporting the music program by just being there to hear the outstanding work they've put into this trimester. Hope to see you there!

Registration Now Open
Please take a moment to register your student(s) for the 2024-2025 school year.  Information can be found on the ‘Registering My Student’ tab at the top of the district website or by clicking the links below.  All students need to register and update their information each year.  Contact Katie Osborn, District Registrar, with any questions at 641-236-2677 or katie.osborn@grinnell-k12.org.  Registration fees will be available for payment after July 1st.

Summer LINK Enrollment is Open
Looking for care for your child this summer?  Check out the Summer LINK program!  This year’s program has added some special camp weeks as well as the pool days, special classes, and field trips!  Reach out to director@linkgrinnell.org with any questions. 

 

 

Snow Make Up Days
The school board passed a motion to add two snow make up days to the end of the school year.  School will be held the full week after Memorial Day with an early out on Friday May 31st as the last day of the 23-24 school year.
