Superintendent's Update: November 10th, 2023

Weekly What is Going Well:

This week’s video highlights what is happening @ Bailey Park.  Principal Mr. Smith is my guest as he gives the viewer an update on the building he leads.  A lot of big happenings have taken place over the past week that are mentioned in the video.  You can view it here.

A special thank you for the rich conversation that took place after 83% of our paraprofessionals watched the documentary “Paper Tigers”.  Many of our students have to overcome challenges and being a positive non-parent role model and mentor helps in students being successful.

Recently, I had the opportunity to talk with the Chamber and Senior Ambassadors and  Mayflower residents on informing and providing an update on happenings in the Grinnell-Newburg CSD.  Many people care deeply about education, our school, and community!

Thank you Grinnell-Newburg CSD voters for approving the extension for our Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL). A total of 71.7% voted in favor!

Unofficially, Chris Grundler (At-Large), Jessica Anderson (Region 4) and Laura Fendt (Region 3) were elected to serve on the Grinnell-Newburg CSD Board for the next four years.  Congratulations!  A thank you to Joshua Yeager for his willingness to serve.

Grinnell-Newburg CSD Girls Swimming divers and relay teams off to state!

Camryn Russell and her teammate Norah Nicol both qualified in diving and will participate at the State of Iowa Swimming Tournament on Friday afternoon.  Joining these two are two relay teams (200 and 400 meters) made up of Isabel Kenkel, Josie Smith, Della Pease, and Anna Key.  Congratulations to all Grinnell-Newburg swimmers and best of luck at State!  Coaches thanks for all your hard work in preparing and improving all members of the team.

Many come out to be entertained by HS Choir and 6th/7th grade Choir.

Not too many open seats were available on Tuesday Night in the High School Auditorium.  Those who attended were treated to some fantastic songs sung by a large number of Grinnell-Newburg CSD students.  The Fall Choir Concert was themed The Road Home. Songs were sung by the whole HS Choir, HS Concert and Chamber Choir, 6th grade Choir, 7th grade Choir and was concluded with all choirs singing the last song.  Luckily for our community the stage was built big enough to have so many participate!!  Thanks to Directors Gookin and Sharp.

Do not forget to provide feedback on the Superintendent Search Survey.

The Board of Directors have stated multiple times the importance of feedback from all stakeholders. The last day to provide stakeholder feedback is November 12th.  If you have not already done so please take a few minutes this weekend to complete the survey.  Once again this is important information for the Board, so thanks in advance for your participation.
