Weekly Update: April 1, 2022

Dear Grinnell Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:

Happy April! I hope this update finds you well as you are heading into the weekend. There has been a lot going on in the district, and the next eight weeks will continue to be busy for many families as we slide into the home stretch of the school year. In the next few weeks, we begin our spring testing for students. The Iowa State Tests, ACT, MAP, and other assessments will be given to students. It is essential that we encourage students to get plenty of sleep, eat a healthy morning breakfast, and try their best. These assessments assist us with our planning for curriculum and instructional practices while identifying any skills gaps. Thank you for ensuring that students attend school and are on time too.

REMINDER: Monday, April 4th - No School / Teacher PD day

Speech Festival:

This past Monday, The Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) held the 43rd Annual All-State Festival of Individual events. Congratulations to Olivia Mick, SMT, who received the honor to appear at the All-State Festival. Also, a highlight of the festival, Elizabeth Hansen, former GHS English teacher and Speech sponsor and Inductee into the IHSSA Hall of Fame, was chosen to serve as a critic for the event. Congratulations! A special thank you goes out to Mr. Hosbond and Ms. Flinspach for coaching our students and guiding them to develop such talent!

HVAC planning for GHS and GMS:

The planning for HVAC replacement at GHS and GMS has commenced. This project is underway; however, most of the construction to replace portions of the HVAC system will occur in the summer of 2023. The timing for installation is mainly due to equipment availability and timing for opening up ceilings when students are not in session.

Conditions for Learning Survey:

Please watch for an important letter and link from your building principal regarding the survey as required by the Department of Education. We thank you for your time in taking this survey, as the results are used to plan for school improvement.
