Weekly Update: August 12th, 2022

Dear Grinnell Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Family, and Friends:

The staff has been gearing up for our first day of school! The hustle and bustle of organizing, planning, decorating, and preparing for students is now in full swing. Next week we welcome new teachers and all staff back to school for our beginning of the year kick-off! It is all coming together nicely! We are very busy finalizing cleaning, completing construction projects, and scheduling newly enrolled students. August 23rd will be here before you know it! But first, we wish all of our students, staff, and families the best who are competing at the Iowa State Fair!  Here is a quick link to the Iowa State Fair for your convenience.

Tiger Pack Sign Up:

You can sign up for Tiger Packs on this form by September 1, 2022, to receive your Tiger Pack on September 9. Sample Packs will be distributed to all students on August 26, 2022, with further flier information. Sign Up hereTiger Pack Form

Free Haircuts from Sharp Barbering:

Sharp Barbering is giving back and offering free youth cuts on Wednesday, August 17th (the Wednesday before school starts) to anyone wanting to look fresh and clean for the new school year but may not have it in the budget. All four barbers will be in all day. There will be snacks and drinks provided.

To book an appointment, call (641-236-0669), message them on Facebook or stop in the shop - at its new location at 929 Broad Street. The Booksy app will be closed for that day, so make sure you make an appointment ahead of time.  (Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments will take precedence.)

Open Position Night:

The Grinnell-Newburg School District will host an open positions interview night this Tuesday and Wednesday evening at 925 Broad St. Grinnell, Iowa, from 5:30-7:00 PM for paraprofessional positions, cooks, kitchen workers, bus drivers, van drivers, and attendants. We encourage you to come to learn about these positions and apply! Administrators will be available to answer your questions and have you participate in an interview.

Turf Update:

The Turf is now on a roll! It is our hope that the project will be completed mainly by the end of the day on Tuesday of next week. The end zones will be done later once the concrete cures a bit longer. It is exciting!  We ask that all stay off the construction site during this project as it is a hard hat area. You can view the field from the visitor bleachers only, but please do not go on the track. Once the project is finished, we will have photos of this project from start to finish for you to see! Below is a sneak peek.

Above and Beyond Awards:

Congratulations to our Above and Beyond community members. The Grinnell Education Partnership members who were honored were: Monica Chavez-Silva, Nicole Brua-Behrens, Liz Hansen, Jill Harris, Lindsey Altenhoven, and Melissa Strovers. Accepting the award for the GEP were Liz, Jill, and Lindsey!  This Team was recognized for going above and beyond to support our students throughout the community. Collectively, they have organized efforts to support and enhance services for students by being the vehicle for creating partnerships between the school district, Grinnell College, Arts Center, Drake Library, LINK, and more. Congratulations!

Also recognized was Martha Pinder, our very own Grinnell Herald photographer, for all her efforts in creating photographic memories for our families and students weekly!  Thank you, Martha, for showcasing our Student Programs!
