Weekly Update: November 10, 2017

Dear Grinnell-Newburg Family and Friends,

It is this time of year where schools across the country host several Veterans’s Day programs.   I want to take the time to recognize America's Veterans for their service.  Today GMS honors local Veterans at their annual school program.  I want to thank all of our local Veterans who had the opportunity to participate in this special event.

This weekly update highlights the facility concept plan. CMBA presented information to the Board of Education this week regarding the proposed concept plan.  We have created an informational newsletter that will enable our community members to see our journey on how we came to this facility concept plan that has been in progress over the last 15 months.  The informational letter will be mailed out at the beginning of next week to our community.  The architects and CMBA will present various options to the steering committee for feedback regarding the bond proposal on Monday evening at 6:30 p.m.   This feedback will be used to make a final presentation to the Board of Education next Wednesday, November 15, 2017.  It will be recommended to the Board to ask our voters to vote this February 6, 2018 for a bond referendum.  Please stay informed about the concept plan and the upcoming decisions regarding our properties and plans.  You may contact me at any time if you have questions regarding the facility concept plan.

PTO:
I had the opportunity to share our facility concept plan journey with the PTO this past Tuesday night just prior to the choir concert.  I want to thank the PTO for affording me the opportunity to present and then sneak out so I could make it over to the High School & 6th Grade Choir concert.  I am grateful for all you do for our students!

High School Concert with the 6th Grade:
The choir concert was fabulous.  The theme “home” certainly echoed in the auditorium as students performed in front of a pleased crowd.   Well done!

7th Grade Girls Basketball Victory:
I had to look at the score-board twice when I left the gym after the middle school basketball game this week.  Even Chris Varney at KGRN thought it was a typo…  67-0  Tiger win against Marshalltown.  Wow!  Way to go team.
