Weekly Update: Friday, March 29, 2019

Dear Board of Education, Staff, Families and Friends,

Happy Friday! I hope this weekly update finds you well as you enjoy spending time with family and friend as we conclude our Spring Break. Just a reminder that on Monday, April 1, students will be in session until 12:30 PM. This early dismissal will afford our staff the opportunity to prepare and complete our training for the upcoming ISASP State Assessment.

Please note that this coming April, Grinnell Newburg Community School District will be celebrating attendance month. We encourage all students to finish the trimester strong and attend school every day. There will be a variety of activities during the month for students. Please check your school’s weekly informational emails, website and FaceBook pages for more information.

There is school Monday, April 1 with a 12:30 dismissal.

SIAC Meeting on Section 504 student plans April 10th 5:00-6:00 PM High School Library:

The SIAC Committee will be sponsoring a parent and teacher informational meeting on Section 504 “Process, Procedures and Implementation of a 504 plan. What I need to Know when navigating a successful 504 student plan”. Dr. William Soesbe, Kelsey Walters, and Dr. Janet Stutz will be facilitating this informational session. We hope you can join us to learn more about the 504 process and how you as a parent or teacher can navigate a successful plan.

April 10th Board Meeting Recognition:

The Board will be recognizing all of our students, coaches and sponsors who have participated in a State Level Athletic Competition, or an ALL State Event since fall. (FFA, Speech, band, etc…) Students will be notified ahead of time if you are being recognized. Since this may be a large gathering, the Board meeting will be held in the Auditorium at 6:00 PM following the SIAC meeting. We will recognize students/Coaches/sponsors later this Spring if they have participated in a state event after April 1.

The Facilities ADHOC Committee will be meeting April 3 in the High School Library at 6:00 PM to continue the discussion.

The District Office will be closed today at 11:30 a.m. as it is a recognized District Holiday.   I will be in Indianola this afternoon for a superintendent’s meeting. If you need immediate assistance, please send me an email and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

S.H.E COUNTS initiative - the Power Up: Financial Fitness for Women series.

This event will be focused on The Power of Saving & Budgeting.  We will also once again have a free lunch provided by a local, woman owned restaurant.
