Weekly Update: August 13, 2021

Weekly Update: August 13, 2021:

Dear Grinnell-Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:

Happy Friday! Next week we will welcome our new teachers and staff back to school! We are very excited to see everyone as we gear up to L.E.A.R.N. Together while Bouncing Back! #WeAreGrinnell.

In just a little over a week, we will welcome our students back to school! The first day of school is August 23, 2021! It will be a full week of reuniting with friends, families, and staff! Students will learn routines, schedules and engage in learning activities to help them grow socially, emotionally, and academically. We are very excited to see our students back in our classrooms!

COVID Update:

As we welcome our students and each other back to school, I recognize that the variant for COVID 19 is concerning. The following protocols will be put in place as we return to school:

We strongly encourage mask wearing for all students, staff, and visitors inside the school facilities. We can not mandate mask-wearing per Iowa Code. Mask wearing is voluntary. A federal executive order remains in place that has been interpreted to require masking on school transportation and we strongly encourage students to follow the CDC guidelines.

We will continue to keep our protocols for cleaning, hand washing, encouraging outside activities as much as possible, and reminding people to stay home if they are ill or have developed symptoms.

The Iowa Department of Public Health will not be doing any contact tracing or mandating quarantine. Please stay home if you are sick or have symptoms. Get tested if you develop symptoms and follow the CDC guidelines. We encourage parents/guardians and students to let school nurses know if your student has been exposed or tested positive for COVID-19. We will be monitoring school absences and working with the Iowa Department of Public Health as necessary if absences become a concern.
