Weekly Update July 13, 2018

Dear Grinnell-Newburg Board of Education, Families, Staff and Friends:

Happy July 13, 2018.  We are about four weeks away until new teachers join our team to begin onboarding training!  Plans are coming together as we look forward to the start of the school year. The first day for students is August 23, 2018.   It is my hope that these warm summer days have afforded you some wonderful opportunities to spend time with families and friends.

This weekly update, although brief, has a few important messages for all of our readers.  Take a look!

Upcoming Information Meeting about the Bond:

There are three scheduled meetings at this time for anyone wishing to learn more about the upcoming September 11, 2018 Bond Election. I will present information regarding the purpose for the bond.   Please know that the facility concept plan has not changed. My presentation will focus on four key messaging points: Career and College Readiness, system upgrades, Specialized Instruction and increased instructional time, and School Security and Safety.  I hope you join me at one of the following presentations being held at the Drake Library:

July 18 from 4:00-5:00 PM,

July 23 from 4:30-5:30 PM

July 30 (SEED Meeting)  10:00 AM

More informational meetings are being planned.   Please contact Amber Robson at 236-2700 to schedule an informational meeting for your group.

11th Avenue Property Sale:

The District has received a sign agreement for the sale of the 11th ave Property. There will be a public hearing held on July 25, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Grinnell High School’s Board room.  A public notice was submitted to our local paper.

High School Boys Baseball:

Last night our Varsity Baseball Tigers played their final season game against Dallas Center- Grimes.  This Friday night, Grinnell will be hosting Districts. Tigers will play against ADM beginning at 7:00 pm. Come out to cheer on our Tigers Baseball Team!  Go Tigers! Best of Luck.

Registration:

If you have not registered your student for the fall of 2018, please do this as soon as possible. Registration can be done through your parent portal, and typically takes 5-10 minutes. Families new to the district can find information and access the registration application by visiting the district website.

I would like to stress the importance of Kindergarten registration as we work to assemble class rosters and balance class sizes between our two lower-elementary buildings. If you have an incoming kindergartner and have not registered, please contact the district office so that we can provide you with instructions on where to register in early August.

Upcoming Events:

Tiger Baseball Districts:  July 13th Grinnell vs. ADM 7:00 PM

Please don’t forget to check out the Virtual Backpack. There are many activities for your students going on in our community.

Have a great weekend!

Janet
