Weekly Update: June 23, 2017

Dear Board of Education, Families, and Friends:

The summer months continue to be busy for the administrative team and the district office staff.  Registration information, newsletters, and preparation for the 2017-18 school year are all tasks to be done.  The principals this week are finalizing end of the year reports, interviewing for any vacancies still posted, and planning for students next year.  We hope that all of you are enjoying your summer.

Presentation for GRMC:
This past week I had the privilege of speaking at SEED that was held at the Drake Library.  I was able to answer questions from the audience and had great discussions that stemmed from the presentation and questions that followed.  The presentation can be found here through this link.

Classroom Learning Environment Sessions:
Mark your calendars to attend one of the Classroom Learning Environment Sessions on August 30 or September 6!  These sessions will be held at the Drake Library beginning at 6:00 PM.  Our architects from CMBA will be present!  It will be fun and engaging and we need your input!

Meet and Greet with the At Risk Staff:
This past week the administrative team collaborated with our school counselors, social workers, success coaches, and attendance specialist in order to plan for coordination of services for this fall.  The Grinnell-Newburg students will find a few new friendly faces this fall that will assist and support our students academically, socially and emotionally.  They are all looking forward to working with our students.

Wrapping up the 2016-17 school year:
I have had the opportunity to meet with some of our retired teachers this past week to engage in exit interviews.  These valuable meetings assist me in learning more about the district’s success, as well as areas that we need to take a closer look at.  I appreciate our retirees coming in to spend some time with me these past few weeks.  Another activity that brings closure to the school year are staff evaluations for administrators, directors and support staff.  This is a wonderful opportunity to review our school year and look for ways to continue to improve.
