Dear Grinnell Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families and Friends:
I hope that you are enjoying this gorgeous weather today! The outlook for the weekend looks pretty good too. I want to thank everyone for assisting our students as they experienced the New State Assessment, (ISASP). After only a few glitches, it looks like the overall testing sessions went well.
This week has flown by so quickly! There is quite a bit going on to prepare for end of the year activities as well as summer school, summer curriculum work, and the start of next school year. Speaking of next year- the calendar will be modified at next week’s board meeting after finalizing the GNEA contract. Good News too! The recommendation to the Board will be to hold the last day for students and teachers on May 29, 2020 rather than June 1, 2020. Check out the recommended draft calendar changes here: Revision
This week I have been working on the required State documentation for the overall operational safety plan. I had an opportunity to meet with Chief Sicard and Chief Rielly, as we plan for an administrator’s safety work session next Tuesday. I also want to thank Chad Nath for assisting me to plan the agenda for this work session.
Community Facility Update Meetings: May 1 & May 6:
We will be hosting two informational meetings on May 1 from 6-8 at GHS in the library, and May 6 from 6-8 at the Drake Community Library, to share with the public our facility ADHOC committee’s current progress. We would like for our community to attend so that we can hear your feedback before moving on to next steps.
The next ADHOC committee meeting will be held on May 7 at GHS in the library beginning at 6:00 PM.
Upcoming Board Meeting:
Our next Board meeting is scheduled for April 24, 2019. The agenda has been published and can be viewed here. We have some documents that still need to be linked and hope to have all of them ready by Monday.
Some highlights for this meeting are: Bleacher proposal, projector proposal and security cameras, Davis and Bailey Park PLTW State recognition, approval of the GNEA contract agreement and much more. It will be a busy meeting.
2019 Iowa FFA State Leadership Conference:
Congratulations to Grinnell FFA! Paige and Beula received their State Degree, AG Sales was 3rd Silver, and two Greenhands experienced their first State FFA convention by participating in the Quiz Contest.

We have had a great response to early OLR so far this year. If you haven’t registered you student yet please follow the instructions below.

We have opened Online Registration for the 19-20 school year. Please log in to your Parent Portal and click on the blue "Online Registration" link. If you cannot remember your username or password, please contact Elizabeth Plagge via email elizabeth.plagge@grinnell-k12.org or phone 641-236-2677.
Fairview Concert Highlights:
Once again another amazing concert performed this past week. The Fairview students did an amazing job! Thank you Molly Loftin, music teacher, for planning another awesome celebration of music, movement, and artistic expression. Thank you to the Fairview Staff for supporting students during this event. Great job!
First graders students had a lot of fun learning how to use keynote on their ipads. The class completed a survey of their favorite zoo animal, created a graph in using the data, came up with questions about their graph, and learned how to use audio to answer the questions.
